Summer Pattern Play

I sewed my first dress using a pattern!

didn't quite fit my bubs quite how i wanted but I'm enjoying the dress as is...

i used the 'new look 6557' the only issue i found was the width of the bodice piece being too long

I've finally started sewing clothes!! this is a happy moment for me :) It's been a long time goal in the making...

I randomly (seriously 1 hour before a party) stitched this shirt out of fabric i found at SAS... [picture a stinky thrift store FILLLLED with inexpensive fabric, tons of buttons and other little treasures ♥]

Took me all of maybe 20 minutes. Sorry about the crummy photo, it's a party pic :)

And the pic below was my 1st pattern use ever... came out OKAY but too big. Now I understand patterns a little better :) I adjusted the shirt in the picture so it wouldn't look so big shhhh!

I have a few other things I'm working on and attempting to work on, hopefully I'll have more clothes to share soon! I really need a serger....!

Problem Solving

So my boyfriend and a friend installed a ceiling fan on my back porch for me woot! it works really well except that the light was wayyy to bright. So I got a little creative and made some light covers with pretty fabric :)

It felt like i had flood lights in my backyard!

They also double as shower caps for cute glowing nightlights from ikea :)

more round things...

I'm working on embroidering another little round guy I screenprinted a little while back. I think I'm gunna change his eyes to buttons...

These I used a darning foot to outline the image... I like them too but I think I enjoy the hand embroidered look better :)

Quick easy and fun! custom potholders

I brought my cheap-o potholders camping and in turn ruined them d'oh...

I had all the supplies on hand to make some, so I did!

Diaper bag complete!

I visited my wonderful friend Nora today and gave her the diaper bag I finally finished...

I think the baby will fit perfectly into it... :)

I worked pretty hard on it, and didn't use a pattern... in retrospect I wish I had put more pockets on the inside, but I still think it's pretty cute!

I hope she doesn't mind me posting this pic but its too precious not to share ♥

Gooood week

I had a fairly productive week... i finished a diaper bag for my good friend, and I sewed a tank with a pattern for the first time! Its not perfect, I had to adjust it a few times, but i'm satisfied... I'll post pics soon...

But for now, I really like making these hairclips!!

AND I got a whole bunchels of discontinued leather samples for freee to make more

Kitchen light is UP!

I came home from work today and my boy had rewired and put up my thrifted new light for me!!! I loooove the way it lights up my kitchen at night

My kitchen is quite a mix-match right now but I don't care BECAUSE THIS LIGHT IS AWESOME SAUCE!!! ♥

sooo tired!

I really wanted to post something before I head off to sleepy land, so I thought I'd share my guilty purchase of the day...

AHHHH both on sale for about $3/yd!!! I don't know what I'm going to do with them but with summer coming in AZ I'd really like to have an arsenal of skirts... I have a soft spot for old lady looking fabric...

But seriously. I CAN NOT buy anymore fabric until I use some of what I have. SERIOUSLY.

Today was a good day... Did a little screenprinting with my friend Kathy [pics/mini tutorial up this week] and my friend miss Margeaux bought her first sewing machine! She's really excited and I'm excited for her...

Moose dog has been really cuddly lately, I sure do love this pupp...

My friend Tanya made me this a little bit ago, she bought the teeeny tiny cupcake mold off of etsy. I likes it :)

 

I Made Kick-Ass Movie Costumes!! literally...

Sooooo, I have some friends that wanted to dress up as the Kick-Ass movie characters for the Phoenix Comicon, and they commissioned me to make them... The only time I made anything close was my Max helloweenie costume but to be honest furry loose fabric is very forgiving when you make mistakes!

It was really tough but I welcomed the challenge, so I spent much of last month worrying, pacing, researching, and restitching all to the very  last minute!! and I was proud of myself when I was done :)

More Thrift Finds!

I think this sheet is going to end up as a kitchen curtain, it will go soo good with my previous finds!

Thrifty finds...

I drive by 2 thrift stores on the way to my doctor, so whenever I have an appt I can't resist stopping on the way home! These were my favorite finds from my last trip :)

I found this at the 2nd store:

And this at the 1st! It was meant to be...

They will soon both be in my kitchen, I'm sooo excited to put this light up above my kitchen table, I'm hoping my boy and I will have it done this weekend!

I also found this glass mushroom shaped container, and thought it would look really cute with some mushroom cap polka dots... so I traced them out and used glass etching cream, I really like how it turned out!

Camping in April...

Our 3rd annual camping trip was a blast as usual! It was hailing on the way there, sooo frickin cold! But we still managed to have an amazing time...

This year we took the puppy and bought him a backpack, he was so well behaved and enjoyed it as much as the rest of us :)

I've been on a bit of a hiatus... but for the most part I have been creating and such! Here's a start at me catching up...

I've been feeling terribly uninspired lately...

There are a bunch of things that I want to work on, but as soon as I get home from

work my motivation is sucked right out of me :(

My dream for this year is to have a successful handmade shop and to be able to work my retail job part-time.

I have a lot of work ahead of me.

I was recently in Hollywood and found this great Betty Page shop on the Blvd...

They have the cuuuutest dresses, I wanted to buy them all :)

scraps hairclip tutorial

I was working on some more of these notepads using donated couch leather, and decided to make myself a quick hair accessory. It was so simple and I like the results. I'm going to make more soon! Here's how I did it if you're interested:

I started with some leather and fleece scraps [choose any fabric that won't fray...]

Roughly cut out some flower like shapes of varying sizes

Stack them up until you like the configuration

light up the night clothing

generally I'm not a follower of the fashion world as far as high fashion is concerned, but this one really caught my attention... old technology + new technology can be a good thing:)

I need motivation today...

one item on my 'must do' list for the year is a onesie... when I found this contest I thought it was meant to be!! but im lacking the motivation to complete it and the deadline is in a couple days :/

Sew Warm Contest
its the writing the instructable that's getting me... I can go through and stitch it up, but I make it up as I go along. carefully planning this proves harder than I thought!

Im either going to be really busy or really lazy until sunday ack!

Tim Burton exhibit at MoMA in Jan :) my only complaint was that it was soo crowded...

hiking inspired crocheting...

So after hiking I decided I wanted a water bottle sling for short hikes instead of carrying a backpack everytime... I've seen fancy ones before but I like to make my own things whenever possible. So that night I grabbed some leftover yarn and made this before bed:

I like the way it came out :) It's no where near professional but it was quick and easy ♥!

I wish i could write a how to, but I'm so new at crocheting, and I just make it up as i go...
